During the service friends from various faiths will express praise and thanks according to their faith traditions. Portions of this service have also been selected to represent those elements of worship that are shared by all our traditions. \nOur Thanksgiving service is a beautiful way to give true meaning to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Focusing on the historical significance of Thanksgiving in music and the spoken word in multi-interfaith voices makes for a memorable evening.

The goal is to share information about what is happening in their respective areas and to promote the event for support if needed. Guest speakers offer insights and participants share what’s going on in their community. It is an opportunity to make friends and to build camaraderie as we understand our differences but respect what we have in common and aim to support one another in exercising our religious freedom.

SUMMARY:Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) Basic Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Alternatives to Violence Project celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.  It was started by a group of Quakers in Greenhaven prison in New Your in 1974.  Workshops are done over 3 days\, totalling 18 hours. \nMost workshops are done in the prisons.  However\, we have a rare opportunity to do a workshop in our Reno/Sparks community .  Many who attend AVP workshops are surprised at the impactful experiences which are both serious and deeply moving and also great fun.

DESCRIPTION:Please join Temple Sinai as we celebrate Purim! On this holiday\, we retell the story of Esther\, but with a bit more flair. This year we are parodying the musical\, Chicago. There’s singing\, dancing\, and of course\, food when we’re done! Costumes encouraged!  March 1st   7-9pm \nNote: The Book of Esther is a very adult story\, with themes of sexual exploitation\, trafficking\, genocide\, and persecution. Our retelling does not avoid these topics\, although we try to laugh about them. Our spiel contains adult themes and is PG-13. Leave the kids at home\, they wouldn’t get most of the jokes and you wouldn’t want to have to explain them.
